Welcome to my blog. I am focusing more this year on creating products for librarians. Periodically I will share these products with you in a blog post. Today I want to share will you some of my printables that may help you in your library lessons teaching library skills to your first graders.

All of the items I am featuring today are available in my Teacher Pay Teachers store – Library to Classroom.

When I was school librarian I created activities and lesson plans that combined skills the students needed into a comprehensive sequence. I am in the process of adapting all of these to put up on Teachers Pay Teachers.

First Grade Library Lesson Worksheets

Book Care Little ones have to learn the skill of how to take care of books. Some of that is done organically during everyday conversations with the kiddos. Sometimes you want to quiz your students on their knowledge of how to properly take care of books. This worksheet/quiz will allow you to do just that.

Fiction or Non Fiction Learning the difference between fiction and nonfiction can be a difficult task for primary grade children. These 4 worksheets can be separated into 4 short lessons. The first worksheet introduces the concept of fiction and nonfiction. The second two worksheets test the students ability to determine if a picture is fiction or nonfiction. The final worksheet lists titles for students to decide if they represent a fiction or nonfiction book.

Autho and Title This worksheet gives your students the opportunity to determine author and title from a simplified book cover/title page. Depending on the length of your lesson time, this 2-sided worksheet

could work for either one or two lessons. I used these with first graders but could be used for advanced kindgergarteners or second or third graders.

First Grade Library Lesson Activities

ABC Order This set consists of three activities which can be used to teach ABC order and shelf order to primary grade students. The first activity is a set of ABC cards. The second activity is a set of Easy/Everyone Call letter match up cards. The third activity is a set of Fiction Call letter match up cards. Instructions are included for each activity

Book Care Simon Says This is my most popular item on TpT. Do you ever have just a couple minutes left in library time? Are you trying to teach your students proper book care? Book Care Simon Says can help. The full list contains 14 Simon Says statements regarding book care that you can use with your students.

1st grade Library Lesson Plans

Do you struggle with what to teach during library time? Here are more than 20 lesson plans appropriate for the first grade level. Lessons include: book care, fiction, nonfiction, and more. Links are included within the lesson plan to online resources and TpT worksheets/activities.

The school where I used to work required a curriculum guide for all courses. Since I taught, I needed to create a library curriculum guide for each elementary grade. At the time I couldn’t find anything so I created my own. I hope to soon have that adapted so that it can be used in any school situation.

I also hope to soon have a bundle available with all of the first grade materials. Those are my projects for the next month. I will share them with you once they are complete.
