Week by Week – Week 34

Our last week with the kiddos. This week is all about sharing favorite books and getting books returned.

I missed the library time with the littles – had a medical appointment so my assistant handled the lesson.

The favorites I shared with the kinders were The Snowy Day, Peter’s Chair, and A Hat for Ivan.

The story time favorite I shared with the first grade was a long one so we only had time for one story Cyrus the Unsinkable Sea Serpent

Rosie Revere, Engineer; Iggy Peck, Architect; and Brothers at Bat were my favorites I shared with the second graders.

Third graders got to hear: I Wish That I Had Duck Feet, Caps for Sale, and Oxcart Man.

With the fourth graders I read a couple of my favorite non-fiction titles: Irena’s Jar of Secrets and Pink and Say.

We finished off the fifth graders list of their favorite books during their last library time. I’ll be sharing their list later this week.

In spite of it being the end of the year and no book check-out allowed, I had several classes come in for extra library time. The seventh grade Bible class came in to use the commentaries and computers to do some Biblical research. The fifth grade came in to finish up their scientist research. For the next two weeks my focus will be doing inventory and getting ready for the first batch of summer classes – the first two weeks of summer. I’ll tell you all about those in a couple of weeks.

Fortunately, I have help for the next two weeks to work on the inventory. Even though we are done with elementary classes, I will still have my assistant for about 10 hours a week – she should be able to get a bunch of the inventory completed. I also have my senior intern for 10-15 hours yet before the seniors are finished with school – she should also be able to get a bunch of the inventory completed. That will mean my time working after school is out may be shorter. For our 9000 volume library, I usually figure 120-150 or so man-hours. How long does your inventory take?
