Week by Week – Week 33

This was a full week. Our annual Young Authors Day was on Friday so most of our spare time during the week was spent on the last minute details. It is always such a fun day – but more about that in a bit.

As the school year winds down, this was our last week for book check out. I hope that enough books come back the beginning of the week that we can start on inventory next week.

With my “littles” we read Little Toot and watched the YouTube video of an old adaptation of the story. I also showed them a YouTube video of how to draw a tug boat – several times so that they could draw their own.

With kinder, first and second, I read several of my favorite books – different titles to each grade level: The Librarian of Basra, Mike Mulligan and the Steam Shovel, Chicken Little, The Secret Science Project that Almost Ate the School, The Field Beyond the Outfield, and The Story of Babar.

With the third and fourth graders we finished reading the books for the National Children’s Choice Award: The Mushroom Fan Club and School People

The last couple of library times each year, I allow the fifth graders to choose their favorites for the read alouds. I will be posting later this month just what those favorites are for this year’s fifth graders.

IMG_1446Our Young Authors Day 2019 is now over. We had 20 groups in 6 classrooms plus the library lead by either seniors or  8th graders under the supervision of an elementary classroom teacher. There were three of these groups sessions. Our speakers this year were our middle school English teacher and her father. They spoke to the kiddos (grades K-6) on how to get a book published.

If you’d like more information about how I do our Young Authors Day you can read more about the process , Talks with the teachers about Young Authors Day, and my post about Young Authors Day 2018.
