Meet the Author – Jen Geigle Johnson

An award winning author, including the GOLD in Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards, Jen Geigle Johnson discovered her passion for England while kayaking on the Thames near London as a young teenager.
She once greeted an ancient turtle under the water by grabbing her fin. She knows all about the sound a water-ski makes on glassy water and how to fall down steep moguls with grace. During a study break date in college, she sat on top of a jeep’s roll bars up in the mountains and fell in love.
Now, she loves to share bits of history that might otherwise be forgotten. Whether in Regency England, the French Revolution, or Colonial America, her romance novels are much like life is supposed to be: full of adventure.

Author Interview

Jen, When did you first know you wanted to be an author?

I have been wanting to write since I was a little girl. When I turned in stories that I thought were very easy, the teacher would read them out loud and tell the kids they were realy good. This surprised me because I always thought that if I had tried harder, I might have really shocked and amazed her. Lol. But in kindgergarten I settled for mediocrity. Hahah.

When you are not writing, what other hats do you wear?

I am a mother of six children. There is always something going on with them and what they want. And I love to be actively involved in their lives. I volunteer in my community and in the schools. I love to ski. So I hit the slopes or the water whenever I can.

Because I am a K-12 school librarian I have to ask – what is your favorite children’s book?

I love the Seven Silly Eaters by Mary Ann Hoberman, Harold and the Purple CrayonThe Scarecrow by Jan Brett, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?

Every year I organize a Young Authors Day for the kids at our school. What advice would you give to a child who wants to be a writer?

I would say if anyone has a desire to write that they should. Every author I’ve ever met shares this one thing in common. They want to write. A surprising amount of people don’t want to write. So if you do, write! Write all the time. Carry a notebook. Journal about your day. Write about fun characters. Don’t worry whether or not someone else would like it. Write for yourself first. It will become something beautiful.

Thanks for joining us today, Jen. I always enjoy learning a little bit more about authors.
