“I didn’t do right by your mother. Or by you. Find her and do what I never had the courage to do.”

Her father’s deathbed confession changed everything for Aspen Kincaid. The mystery of her mother’s disappearance was unsolvable, or so she’d believed.

It seemed her dad had lied to her all her life.

After inheriting a house in New Hampshire—a house Aspen hadn’t known her father owned—she travels thousands of miles, desperate to fulfill his dying wish. But some residents of Coventry don’t want Jane Kincaid’s daughter digging into things they think should remain buried forever.

Renovating the secluded old house on the mountain should be the next step in Garrett McCarthy’s contracting career, but Aspen’s arrival in town stirs up old animosities in Coventry that he’d known nothing about. All he wants is to complete the job, hoping it’ll open doors to new opportunities. But when he’s asked to keep an eye on Aspen’s activities, he feels he can’t refuse. How can he honor his beautiful, vulnerable client and remain loyal to the people who need his help?

Join Aspen and Garrett as they attempt to solve a thirty-year-old mystery—without becoming its latest victims.

Page-turning suspense, heartwarming romance, and a plot-twisting mystery that’ll keep you guessing until the very end. Preorder Inheritance of Secrets today.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR – Robin Patchen

Robin Patchen

Robin Patchen is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of Christian romantic suspense. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, the setting of her Nutfield and Coventry Saga books, and then headed to Boston to earn a journalism degree. Working in marketing and public relations, she discovered how much she loathed the nine-to-five ball and chain. After relocating to the Southwest, she started writing her first novel while she homeschooled her three children. The novel was dreadful, but her passion for storytelling didn’t wane. Thankfully, as her children grew, so did her writing ability. Now that her kids are adults, she has more time to play with the lives of fictional heroes and heroines, wreaking havoc and working magic to give her characters happy endings. When she’s not writing, she’s editing or reading, proving that most of her life revolves around the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. GUEST POST – Where do You Find Writing Inspirations?

Writers are notorious for comparing ourselves to others. I wish I were immune, but I admit I regularly fall into this trap myself. It’s not numbers of books sold that tweaks my jealousy. I don’t get particularly covetous when I hear another author has won this award or that. No, my envy issues are about something else entirely.

Ideas.

There are writers out there who talk about having notebooks filled with ideas, so many ideas that they won’t have time to write them all in their lifetime.

Such riches are unfathomable to me!

I’m a one-idea-at-a-time writer. In fact, I’m usually about halfway through writing one story before I have even an inkling of what the next will be about. These days, I’ve been trying to have more than one book available for preorder at any given time, which means that not only do I have to come up with a title and a cover—for a story I know next to nothing about—but I also have to write a blurb.

FYI, blurb-writing is so much easier when you have a clue about the story. Not a lot of readers click that “buy now” button after reading what I really know.

“Pretty heroine must do something really hard, but bad guys are determined to stop her. Oh, and there’s a guy.”

Yup. That’s where it starts for me.

But the question was, “Where do You Find Writing Inspirations?”

I wish I knew the answer. If I did, I could go back there regularly, maybe pick up more than one at a time. Alas, inspiration strikes at the oddest times.

For instance, I’m writing Lineage of Corruption right now. It comes out in July, and it was inspired by the five o’clock news. My heroine’s father is the lone senator standing up against a president whose policies he deems unwise for the country—and whose enemies want to compel him to vote against his conscience (and will use his daughter to do it). Doesn’t that sound like fun?

It felt like an inspired idea. We’ll see how it turns out.

Inheritance of Secrets was inspired by a number of things. Our trip to Hawaii in November for my son’s wedding planted the seed—a Hawaii woman compelled to travel to New Hampshire in February. I wanted to include a house I’d used as a setting in the previous book, so I made that house her inheritance. Which meant her parent or parents had to die. The rest of it came together after some friends helped me brainstorm.

They say success is more perspiration than inspiration. That has proved true in my writing. Most of my stories aren’t so much inspired as painstakingly planned and plotted during much hand wringing and hair pulling.

Maybe I shouldn’t be envious, though. I know I can come up with an idea when I need one and then expand on it until it’ll make a book. And I never have to flip through pages and pages of ideas to figure out which one to write next. But maybe there’s freedom in that.
