Tissue paper painting to create collages

You may want to do this ahead of time:

-squeeze acrylic or poster paint into a dish and add water. Then stir

-Paint onto single layers of tissue paper. Lifting off surface so that it doesn’t stick. Place on newspaper to dry

-Paint with a second color in wavy brush strokes, leaving space where first color shows through. Lifting off surface and placing on newspaper to dry.

-Repeat with a third color in dots.

Procedure:

-draw a simple figure (animal or other figure) to use as a pattern

-trace each section onto a prepared tissue paper or plain tissue paper

-apply thin layer of glue to paper and paste it onto cardstock

-trace each section a section time onto a different color tissue paper

-apply thin layer of glue and paste on top of previous tissue paper shapes

-repeat as often as necessary to create desired effect

-add eyes and facial features with tissue paper or draw on using crayons, colored pencils, or markers

2 –Read  Niko Draws a Feeling – by Bob Raczka.

Further instructions are found in the link above.

3 – Organic vs Geometric shapes

Procedure:

-draw geometric shapes with washable markers covering the entire page and color using different colors

-dip a paint brush in water and “fling” water onto the page and let it dry

-take a sharpie and outline most of the water spots.

4 – Read Origami Master by Nathaniel Lachenmeyer.

5 – Read I am Not Going to get up Today – extra activity – we didn’t get to it.

Procedure:

  • Cut a second piece of paper in strips
  • Weave the strips into the first piece to make a mat
