I know you have them – stressful days in the library when nothing seems to go right. You had an unexpected schedule change. The kiddo with challenges lost it during library time. Your assistant didn’t show up. I could go on – just know that I get it.

Wondering how you can combat stress at a difficult time? Not only does stress affect us personally, but it ripples outward to impact the lives of those around us. Today I want to share a few ways to relieve stress so that you can return to relaxation and do your best to be kind, peaceful and welcoming to others.
Turn on your favorite songs and dance away the stress. A good dance party gets the blood flowing and can make anyone smile. You could even do this with one of your classes – no one has to know you are doing it for you
Journaling is a great way to relieve stress. Take a moment between classes and write down what your stressors are and leave them on the page, no need to carry them around with you any longer.
When you get home, take a relaxing bath with your favorite bath bomb, salts, or bubble bath. Let the stress melt away in the water.
Listen to a podcast. There are so many out there; find some of your favorite topics and explore the world of podcasts. The options are endless, cooking, true crime, baking, travel, explore them all.
Read, or listen to a book. You work in a library so you have the entire library is at your fingertips. Get lost in the story; imagine yourself as one of the characters.
Color, there are so many adult coloring books on the market. Be creative, channel your stress into art, share your creations with family and friends, or keep them for yourself.

If you get a lunch break, go for a walk, take in your surroundings, and breathe in the fresh air while exhaling the stress. You can also do this in the evening with family or friends.
Watch a few episodes of your favorite show or binge-watch a whole season. You may even find a new favorite!
Phone a friend or a family member, even if it’s just to say hi and tell them, they are appreciated. Better yet, make it a video call so you can see their smiling face!
Curl up in your favorite spot with a cozy blanket and a hot cup of tea, coffee, cocoa, and get lost in the moment.
Cook or bake your favorite recipe, then enjoy!
Have a good cry! We may not realize what a great stress reliever a good cry can be.
Unplug for the day, no electronics, stay away from the news and social media.
Focus on the things you can control. Make a list of what you can and cannot control. Work on the ones you can and forget what you can’t.
Re-arrange a room in your house, or maybe even re-arrange the library. Sometimes all we need to relieve stress is a different perspective.
Take a nap. A 20-minute power nap can help you refresh and restart! This may not work unless you get an uninterrupted lunch break.
Play with your pet! Don’t have one? Find a neighbor or friend who does and offer to play!
Watch funny YouTube videos. Funny animal videos are everybody’s favorite!
Try Yoga; you can find beginner to expert sessions on YouTube.
Give yourself a spa day, do a mask, give yourself a manicure and/or pedicure. Everyone feels better when their nails look pretty.
Invest in essential oils, diffuse them in your spaces, add them to your bath, breathe, and feel the tension melt away.

Give yourself a neck massage, use stress-relieving lotion, and massage your way to relaxation.
Learn something new, crocheting, knitting, quilting, or how about a language. You could even try new recipes. Between Pinterest and YouTube, you can find the resources to learn anything.
Now that you have all these tips, remember self-care is essential. Self-care is a vital step in maintaining you.
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.
