Safe harbor and new beginnings await on the Chesapeake Bay…
Pleasant Shores cop Evan Stone has worked hard to become a man of his word, overcoming the alcoholism that sent him down the wrong path in his youth. So when his late best friend’s sister asks for his help, he doesn’t hesitate. He promised he’d watch out for Cassie, and the cottage next to his will be a perfect short-term refuge for her and her dog. The other half of that promise—to stay away from Cassie romantically—is harder to keep.
Sheltered for years because of a childhood illness, Cassie is ready to reach for what she wants. And despite her family’s warnings and her own fears, Cassie’s heart wants Evan. As the return of his estranged son puts his sobriety to the test, Cassie and Evan are drawn together, finding strength through what they’ve each weathered. She knows Evan would risk anything to protect her, but are they willing to risk the price of loving, now and forever?

A Guest Post from Lee
Why is Christian fiction important?
Christian fiction is very important, now more than ever! Our world is troubled on a large scale, with ecological, geopolitical, and medical disasters galore. Individual people’s lives may be affected by loss, anxiety, and fear. Children and teens are not immune to trouble, and indeed, they may be more affected than adults with more perspective and experience.
Readers have an advantage of being able to escape problems, both large and small, via books. All kinds of books can sweep you away to a different place and give you an escape from your problems.
But Christian fiction does more. While some book-escapes are over as soon as you reach “the end,” Christian fiction points toward more help and support beyond the covers of the book. By reading about characters who go to church, pray, and apply faith to life’s problems, readers may be moved to do the same. If so, there’s a good chance readers’ problems will be dealt with better and even solved. That’s making an impact!
Additionally, Christian fiction is G-rated fiction. Children and teens who are good readers may reach for adult books, seeking the same kind of escape that adults seek. When that happens, librarians and parents can feel comfortable putting an adult work of Christian fiction into a young person’s hands.
Some people ask me why, if I’m such a strong believer in Christian fiction, I write some books for the secular market in addition to my Christian books. The answer is that I want to reach as wide an audience as possible. While my books like Forever on the Bay include characters who go to church and pray, the faith element is light enough not to put off those who aren’t Christian. Those readers may need inspiration more than Christian readers do. And my hope is that they’ll like my “faith-lite” books so much that they’ll read some of my more explicitly Christian books as well.
In my Christian books, I’m preaching to the choir. Nothing wrong with that—the choir needs entertainment and support. But I’d also like to reach readers currently outside the faith community. Writing both Christian and sweet romance is one way to do that.
